Fidelma Healy Eames

Fidelma Healy Eames says that writing has always been part of her life, allowing her to "retreat, to think, to ponder how words work best and convey meaning".

She credits her early teaching experiences of trying to teach children to write imaginatively as her introduction to creative writing. She has a PhD in writing, language and the creative process; worked as a teacher educator and facilitating writing workshops for pre-service and in-service teachers.

A decade in electoral politics, including as a member of the Irish Senate,  "stripped a lot of the creativity out of me and my writing became more about policies and press releases". She has recently returned to writing at "a more personal and creative level".

Fidelma is the chairperson of Yeats Thoor Ballylee Development, a voluntary board dedicated to the development of a cultural and educational centre at Yeats Tower in Gort, Galway — once owned by W.B. Yeats.  She lives in Galway with her husband, Michael. They have two children, Niall and Ruth.
